Miami FC News Release

Phoenix, Ariz. - The Miami Football club visits Arizona to play its first Western Conference away game of the season against Phoenix Rising on Saturday, April 22, at 10:30 p.m. ET. Fans back home and in the USA can watch the game live on ESPN+.

Miami FC arrives at Phoenix on the back of a 1-0 loss in the first-ever Miami Clásico against Inter Miami CF.

Orange and Blue set the tone for the game for about 65 minutes, even without captain Paco Craig, who did not start due to a dead leg. However, they were unable to make the best out of their chances. The Herons scored late to advance to the fourth round of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, knocking Miami FC out of the tournament.

"I'm extremely proud of the players," said Pulis after the match. "Credit to the players. They executed the game plan fantastically well. We had them on the ropes, and we let them off."

Despite the result, the club broke a home attendance record. A total of 11,158 fans assisted the game, making it a night to remember in Miami soccer history.

Last time out in USL Championship action

Miami FC defeated Hartford Athletic 2-0 at FIU Stadium on Saturday, April 16. The win catapulted Miami into sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

Forward Kyle Murphy and Reggae Boy Romeo Parkes scored MFC's goals on the night. Murphy got fans off their seats after just 16 minutes of play, rounding the keeper and tucking the ball into the back of the net. Parkes scored his third goal in his four substitute appearances in the 86th minute to secure the three points.

Goalkeeper Connor Sparrow was essential in the victory, producing a one-handed save to deflect an Ashkanov Apollon shot onto the post.

Now, Miami FC embarks on one of its most challenging stages of the season, three consecutive away games at Phoenix, Memphis and Birmingham.

Phoenix Rising is coming off a 2-1 home triumph against Western Conference rivals New Mexico United in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday. The Rising avenged a loss against New Mexico in a penalty shootout in the 2019 U.S. Open Cup.

Three of the five wins were in league play at home against San Antonio, LA Galaxy II and New Mexico United. In U.S. Open Cup action, Phoenix defeated Valley United and New Mexico for the second time in four days.

Phoenix Rising sits in fifth place in the Western Conference, heading into Matchday 7 of the USL Championship.
