June 22, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
Miami, FL. June 19, 2009 -Miami FC hopes to continue their winning streak this Tuesday when they face the 2009 CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinalist the Montreal Impact at Saputo Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7.45pm.
The Blues are coming off a strong road performance beating the Cleveland City Stars twice in Middle Field Stadium. Miami beat the Impact at the first ever official match at FIU Stadium. Diego Serna led the Blues in the 2-1 victory tallying one goal and one assist on April 24, 2009. The Blues are currently on a 3 game winning streak and have an impressive 2-2-1 road record.
"The team has come together this road trip. We were playing good soccer but the results weren't showing. Now we have to travel to Montreal and face an always difficult team in the Impact, but I feel very confident that we can come away with another road win," Said head coach Zinho.
The Impact are coming off a strong 2008 campaign where they reached the semifinals of USL-1 and won the 2008 Canadian Championship. The latter earned them a coveted spot in the CONCACAF Champions league. And they capitalized on that opportunity by making it all the way to the quarterfinals where they ultimately lost 5 -2 to Mexican power-house, Santos Laguna, in injury time of the second half of the second match at Santos.
Montreal had won the first match 2 - 0 in Montreal at the Olympic Stadium in front of a crowd of over 55,000 people. Montreal is currently in 7th place and boasts a 2-1-1 record at home.
Miami FC returns home to play the now traditional Fourth of July game against the first place Puerto Rico Islanders. This game will be played at FIU Stadium and will include a fireworks extravaganza immediately after the game.
