City Stars Take On Defending USL-1 Champion Vancouver Whitecaps Tuesday At 7 P.M.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland City Stars take on the Vancouver Whitecaps Tuesday June 23rd at 7 p.m. in a rare match-up between the reigning champions from the USL First and Second Divisions. Tuesday is Student ID Night at Middlefield Cheese Stadium with all students with valid ID's receiving $5 tickets.

The City Stars (2-9-2, 8 points) enter the match in 10th place in USL-1 after dropping back-to-back disappointing decisions against Miami FC over the weekend. The City Stars missed a 90th minute penalty kick in the first match and lost despite out-shooting Miami by nine in the rematch.

Cleveland is led by Joshua Boateng and Pato Aguilera. The rookie Boateng leads the team in goals with three while playing in only six matches so far on the season. Aguilera leads the league in assists with five and was named to consecutive USL-1 Teams of the Week in weeks nine and ten.

The defending USL-1 champion Whitecaps (4-5-2, 14 points) enter the match in 8th place. Vancouver is led by leading goal scorer Marlon James. The forward is second in the league with four goals on the season. Midfielder/Defender Wes Knight has recorded four assists on the season and sits just behind Aguilera in third place in the league. Knight was a college teammate of Cleveland goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap at the College of Charleston.

Tuesday will be the first ever meeting between Cleveland and Vancouver. The match will be broadcast on SportsTime Ohio, premiering Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. and replaying Wednesday June 24th at 5:00 a.m. and Thursday June 25th at 12:00 p.m.
