Impact Hosts Miami Tuesday

June 22, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Montreal Impact News Release

MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact (4-4-2) plays against Miami FC (5-5-1), Tuesday, at Saputo Stadium (7:30 pm, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990, USLlive.com).

The Impact has lost only once in its last six regular season games (4-1-1).

"The team is doing well lately because we have tightened our play defensively," explained player-coach Mauro Biello, who could be playing on Tuesday. "We are also more opportunistic than at the beginning of the season. When you score on the opportunities you are given, you increase by a lot your chances of winning."

In its last game, the Impact signed a 2-1 win at home against the Vancouver Whitecaps, Saturday afternoon.

"The three points on Saturday diminished everyone's stress level," mentioned head coach Marc Dos Santos. "I think that we will become stronger if we stay constant and positive. Our club needs to have a winning mentality every day. Our objective is to be ranked first in the championship and we will go one step at a time."

With a win Tuesday, the Impact could be playing above .500 for the first time this season.

"We want nothing else than the three points. At home, we need to earn the most points possible," mentioned Rocco Placentino, who is currently ranked second in points in the USL Fist Division with nine points (2-5-9). "Things are going well for me because I'm working hard. Last year, I was lacking a bit of energy because I had played the championship in Italy before joining the Impact. This year, I'm connecting even more with my teammates on the field."

Last April 24 in Florida, the Impact suffered a 2-1 loss against Miami FC during the second season game. The Impact had registered on that occasion a first loss in 9 games against Miami. The Impact owns a 4-1-4 record (8GF-4GA) against the Florida team, which this year is playing the fourth season of its young history.

Miami FC won its last three games: 2-0 against Austin, June 14, and 2-1 and 1-0 in Cleveland, June 18 and 20.

"It will not be an easy game Tuesday because Miami is a very complicated team," added Dos Santos. "We will have to be at our best and be true to our principles. If we play intelligently, we should win on Tuesday."

Forward Eduardo Sebrango and defender Zanzan are both back in the lineup. Zanzan had joined the Togolese selection. In a qualifying game for the 2010 World Cup, Saturday against Morocco, he played the full 90 minutes in a 0-0 tie.

Tickets are still available for this game on Admission, at admission.com or by dialling 514-790-1245, as well as at the ticketing office of Saputo Stadium.
