CORPUS CHRISTI - Jonathan Meyer and Max Stassi collected three hits each and combined for seven runs batted in as Corpus Christi walloped Northwest Arkansas 10-4 Thursday night at Whataburger Field before 5,603.

Meyer's two-run single and a two-RBI double from Stassi accounted for the scoring in a game-breaking fifth. Some of Northwest Arkansas' pain was self-inflicted. Naturals starter Brooks Pounder (1-2) issued consecutive walks to lead-off man Rene Garcia and George Springer. Erik Castro also ultimately scored after drawing a free pass from reliever J.C. Sulbaran.

Corpus Christi added a pair in the eighth off Nick Rogers as Domingo Santana coaxed a bases-loaded walk and Castro contributed a run-scoring single.

Rey Navarro homered for the Naturals in the ninth.

Matt Fields' 11th round-tripper of the season - a towering shot to left off Bobby Doran in the second - put the visitors up 1-0.

The Hooks (27-19) quickly punched Pounders with a crooked number, Santana's lead-off double ahead of Meyer's liner onto the left-field berm. Michael Burgess followed by planting a two-base hit inside the right-field line and motored home when Enrique Hernandez singled.

Northwest Arkansas (14-30) swiftly retaliated to close within a run. Roman Hernandez opened the third with a triple to right-center and crossed on Alex McClure's single.

Stassi's RBI double plated Meyer (lead-off double) in the fourth and pushed the Corpus Christi lead back to two. Stassi extended his hitting streak to nine games in the process.

Doran (6-1) covered his pre-planned five frames, allowing five hits and a walk. The Texas Tech product struck out five and 52 of his 79 pitches found the strike zone. Doran ran his record to 4-1 at home.

His relief, Nick Tropeano, notched his fifth four-inning save for Doran. The Naturals loaded the bases with no outs during the seventh, but were able to tally just once as Corpus Christi turned a 4-6-3 double play and Tropeano fanned Brett Eibner.

Fields owns a six-game hitting streak.

Mike Foltynewicz (0-0) takes the ball for Corpus Christi in the series finale Friday at 7:05 vs. Jason Adam (0-5). Bud Light presents Friday Fireworks postgame.
