Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL - The Charlotte Stone Crabs were two-hit on Thursday night, losing 2-0 at St. Lucie in the final contest of their seven-game road trip.

The Crabs went just 2-5 on the week. Charlotte has lost 12 of its last 17 games to fall to 23-26, 3.5 games behind the Mets for first place and just a half game ahead of Palm Beach for last in the FSL South.

Benton Moss (2-5) pitched very well in defeat. Bouncing back from a start in which he went just an inning and two-thirds, Moss allowed just two runs on four hits in six strong innings. He walked three and struck out five. Jose Alvarado pitched two shutout innings in relief.

The Mets struck early against Moss, though. Champ Stuart walked to lead off the home half of the first, and Luis Guillorme immediately doubled him home to put St. Lucie up 1-0. Moss worked out of the inning quickly from there, including picking off Guillorme at second, but the damage had been done.

St. Lucie tacked on another run in the fifth. Jhoan Urena walked with one out. After Patrick Biondi popped out, Moss threw two wild pitches, moving Urena to third, then walked Stuart. Guillorme followed with a soft single to right to score Urena and make it 2-0 Mets.

Mets starter Chris Flexen (3-5) was masterful, going six-and-a-third innings and allowing just one hit. The only hits on the night for the Stone Crabs came from Justin Williams and Riley Unroe.

Charlotte returns home for a three-game weekend set with Fort Myers. RHP Greg Harris (4-4, 3.24) takes the hill for the Stone Crabs against rehabbing Twins RHP Kyle Gibson, who had a 3.84 ERA in 194.2 IP with Minnesota last year. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
