St. Lucie Mets News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets overcame a season-high four errors to defeat the Clearwater Threshers 6-3 on Sunday at First Data Field.

It was the second game this season in which the Mets made four errors and won. They also did it on May 28th in an 8-5 win vs. Jupiter.

The Mets entered the bottom of the sixth trailing 3-2 with all three runs for the Threshers being unearned. Carlos Cortes drew a walk and Jeremy Vasquez followed a double. That brought up Matt Winaker, who crushed a pitch from Oscar Marcelino for a two-run double off the right field wall to put the Mets up 4-3.

Cortes added a RBI sac fly in the seventh inning and Manny Rodriguez hit a two-out single in the eighth to bring home Jake Ortega for an insurance run that made it 6-3.

Thomas McIlraith pitched two hitless innings with one unearned run to get the win. Darwin Ramos pitched a scoreless eighth.

Yeizo Campos pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his third save of the season and his second save of the series. He struck out two batters and all eight of his pitches were strikes.

Binghamton reliever Austin McGeorge was sent down to make the start to help the thin St. Lucie rotation. McGeorge was solid in his five innings of work. He gave up two runs (none earned) on seven hits. He walked one and struck out five while throwing a season-high 85 pitches.

The Threshers, despite the help from the Mets defensive miscues, went just 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 runners through the first six innings.

Winaker, Rodriguez and Jacob Zanon all went 2 for 4.

The Mets (53-46, 21-12) start a seven-game road trip on Monday. First up is a meeting with the Palm Beach Cardinals at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Monday's first pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
