BRADENTON, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets picked up their first win of the season by shutting out the Bradenton Marauders 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at LECOM Park.
Three Mets pitchers combined for the shutout. Starter Kyle Wilson was efficient in his Florida State League debut. He tossed 5.2 innings and scattered four singles. Wilson walked one, struck out three and only threw 77 pitches.
Conner O'Neil picked up the win. He pitched 1.1 innings and fanned three batters.
Blake Taylor earned a six-out save. He preserved the shutout by stranding a runner on third base in the ninth.
Todd Frazier (oblique) continued his rehab assignment after taking Saturday off. Frazier played the entire game and went 2 for 5. He played five innings at third base and four innings at first base.
The game was scoreless through seven innings. The Mets offense broke through for all three runs in the eighth. Blake Tiberi started the inning with a walk and Frazier followed with a single. Cody Bohanek then dropped down a perfect bunt for a hit. Pitcher Gavin Wallace picked the ball up and threw it away, allowing Tiberi to score.
Quinn Brodey's ground out brought home Frazier for a 2-0 lead. Then Matt Winaker put down a squeeze bunt and Bohanek raced home safely with a head first slide to make it 3-0.
The Mets (1-3) will continue their six-game road trip on Monday in Tampa when they face the Tarpons. First pitch from Steinbrenner Field is set for 6:30 p.m.
