Florida Fire Frogs News Release
KISSIMMEE, FL: The Daytona Tortugas used a four-run seventh and a huge offensive output from Mark Kolozsvary to best the Florida Fire Frogs, 5-3, on Sunday afternoon at Osceola County Stadium.
After winning the first two games of the series up in Daytona Beach, Florida dropped both at home and settled for a series split with the Tortugas.
In a game that featured just five combined hits through the first six innings, Mark Kolozsvary's bat exploded at just the right times for Daytona. With the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh, he nailed a three-run double into the left-field corner off RHP Cutter Dyals to put the Tortugas ahead, 4-0. Three batters prior, a single by Andy Sugilio and subsequent fielding error by Izzy Wilson in right plated Alejo Lopez to get Daytona on the board.
Kolozsvary added a run-producing single in the ninth against RHP Sean McLaughlin to provide a key insurance tally.
Dyals (0-1) surrendered four runs, three hits, and two walks in an inning of work. McLaughlin scattered two hits and a walk over two stanzas.
Lost in the shuffle was a magnificent performance from Fire Frogs starter LHP Hayden Deal. He struck out five and yielded just three baserunners (two hits) over six innings while not factoring in the decision.
Daytona starter RHP Andrew Jordan did just enough to keep Florida off the scoreboard. Despite only throwing half of his pitches for strikes, Jordan turned in five scoreless innings and survived three hits and four walks while fanning six batters.
As was the case on Saturday, a furious Fire Frogs offensive charge came up a run short. Florida went through their entire lineup in the eighth, receiving RBI singles from William Contreras and Jefrey Ramos to get them back in the game. Kevin Josephina drew a bases loaded walk versus LHP Carlos Diaz to pull Florida within 4-3.
Daytona, however, countered with RHP John Ghyzel, who entered in relief of Diaz and retired four straight to end the game. The largest of these was a clutch strikeout of Zack Soria with the bases full, ending the frame and the rally altogether.
RHP Ryan Nutof was responsible for all three Fire Frogs runs, giving up four hits and securing just two outs in the process.
