St. Lucie Mets News Release
The St. Lucie Mets had their four-game winning streak snapped Thursday night at Digital Domain Park. The 9-4 loss to the Bradenton Marauders prevented the Mets four-game sweep of the FSL South Division leaders.
Mets starter Jeurys Familia ran into trouble early getting touched up for three runs in the top of the first inning. The Mets were able to battle back in the bottom of the inning. Rafael Fernandez and Kai Gronauer both drove in runs to pull the Mets to within a run at 3-2. A defensive miscue cost the Mets a run in the second inning but Bradenton returned the favor in the bottom of the frame allowing Richard Lucas to score on an error by the pitcher. The Marauders put the game out of reach in the sixth inning. Trailing 4-3, Familia allowed the first three batters of the inning to single and then walked in a run with the bases loaded ending his night. Bradenton would add three more runs in the inning making it an 8-3 game. The Mets could not mount a comeback scoring only once more in the 9-4 loss.
Rafael Fernandez, Stefan Welch and Richard Lucas all had two hits each with Fernandez, Joey August and Kai Gronauer each driving in a run. Pedro Martinez and Richard Pena tossed the final four innings with Pena allowing an unearned run on one of the Mets four errors on the night.
The Mets kick off their final series of the 2010 season on Friday night as they host the Ft. Myers Miracle. The Mets starting pitcher has yet to be announced.
