Mets End Miracle Winning Streak with 10-5 Victory

FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 4, 2013) - The St. Lucie Mets snapped a nine-game winning streak by Fort Myers with a 10-5 victory over the Miracle on Saturday at Hammond Stadium.

Miguel Sano put the Miracle ahead early with a three-run homer in the first, his 10th homer of the season, but the Mets would score the next eight runs to cruise to a win. It was the biggest margin of defeat for the Miracle (23-5), who still hold a six game advantage over the Mets (17-11) for first place in the Florida State League South Division.

After allowing the three-run bomb to Sano and two more hits in the first, Mets' starter Robert Gsellman settled down to retire 12 of the 13 hitters he faced in the second through fifth innings.

Meanwhile, the Mets tagged Miracle starter Tom Stuifbergen for six runs in five innings. Cam Maron drilled a three-run double to center to tie the game in the second and Aderlin Rodriguez blasted a solo homer in the third to put the Mets up 4-3.

The Mets added to their lead with an RBI sac fly from Dustin Lawley and a run-scoring single by Rodriguez in the fifth. An RBI double from Lawley in the seventh increased the Mets lead to 8-3.

The Miracle had a chance to make it a ballgame in the eighth when the Mets committed three errors, but Angel Morales and Andy Leer struck out and the Miracle were only able to plate one run in the frame.

Sano collected another RBI with a single in the ninth to close the game to 10-5, but Kennys Vargas grounded into a double play to end the game.

Rodriguez finished 3 for 5 with four RBIs for the Mets.

Sano and Matt Koch had three hits apiece for the Miracle.

The Miracle will continue their seven game homestand on Sunday when they host the Tampa Yankees for the first of four games.
