Memphis Rallies, Beats Winders Again

Memphis scored twice in the seventh inning Wednesday night and added an insurance run in the the 8th as the Redbirds topped Tucson 4-2 at Auto Zone Park, setting a franchise record with the 13th straight home win.

Tucson led 2-1 going to the bottom of the eighth Tuesday before losing 3-2. The Sidewinders led 2-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh Wednesday before the Redbirds rallied.

The Redbirds strung together back to back singles with one out in the seventh off Edgar Gonzalez. Pinch hitter Billy Selby ripped a double to right scoring Jason Bower while Luis Rodriquez fell down between third and home. Tucson got Selby in a rundown between second and third while Rodriquez remained on the ground. The Memphis catcher got up and scrambled home and scored on a close play that gave the Redbirds a 3-2 lead. Gonzalez was ejected on the play when he bumped umpire Adam Dowdy arguing the play.

John Gall provided a solo home run for the Redbirds final run in the bottom of the eighth.

Brian Gordon put Tucson on the board in the top of the first with a solo home run to right field, his team leading 11th of the season.

The Sidewinders took the lead briefly in the top of the seventh when Chad Tracy started the inning with a double and scored on a two-out single from Doug Devore.

Tucson fell to 56-56. Tucson and Memphis will play the third game of the four-game set Thursday night (5:05 p.m. Tucson time) at Auto Zone Park. The game will be tape delayed on AM 990 KTKT at 6:00 p.m. Andrew Good (1-2 4.88) will start for the Sidewinders against Jason Ryan (7-4 2.77).
