Memphis 901 FC News Release
Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis 901 FC look to rebound from two slim losses as the squad will travel to Kennesaw, Ga. on Saturday to match up with Atlanta United 2 for the third time this season. Saturday's match is slated to kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT and can be seen on CW 30 Memphis and ESPN+.
Last time out, Memphis 901 FC fell by a one-goal margin to Sporting Kansas City II in a 2-3 thriller at AutoZone Park. While the visiting side went up by two goals late in the match, a pair of quick strikes from Kyle Murphy in the 58' and Kadeem Dacres in the 64' led to an even match. The deadlock was only broken by a Sporting II goal in the 72' as the visitors escaped with the slim victory.
Memphis 901 FC currently sits at eighth in the Central Division standings heading into the match against Atlanta. The home side has dropped to sixth in the conference after suffering defeats in back-to-back contests against Memphis 901 FC and OKC Energy FC. Atlanta United 2's June 30 matchup with Birmingham Legion FC was abandoned and rescheduled due to inclement weather.
Atlanta has dynamic playmakers on opposite ends of the pitch as 22-year-old midfielder Aiden McFadden is tied for fifth in the league with six goals. Having seen time with the first team, 19-year-old goalkeeper Rocco Rios Novo has been crucial to the success of Atlanta United 2 when he has suited up, as the Argentine has 24 saves which puts him at eleventh in the league. Discipline has tended to be an issue with Atlanta as the club has the third most fouls conceded and has seen two players ejected this season, both of which came on separate occasions against Memphis.
Memphis has lost just one match against Atlanta United 2 as the record between the two sides is 2-1-2. The first meeting of the 2021 season seemed to be a victory for Memphis until a late McFadden equalizer in stoppage time salvaged a 2-2 draw for the home side. The second matchup this season resulted in a victory for Memphis after Mark Segbers was forced to step into goal for the injured John Berner. The final meeting between Memphis 901 FC and Atlanta United 2 will take place in Memphis on October 16.
