Memphis 901 FC Signs Midfielder Sebastián Velásquez to Multi-Year Deal

Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis 901 FC announced on Friday the club has brought in midfielder Sebastian Velasquez on a multi-year deal, pending league and federation approval.

The veteran midfielder adds MLS and USL experience to an already upgraded 901 FC attack with 50 MLS caps and 101 USL Championship appearances with 27 goals and 18 assists in the league.

"We are proud to welcome Sebastián and his family to Memphis 901 FC," Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell said. "In Sebastián, we are bringing a league veteran with game changing ability to Memphis. He adds another dimension to our roster, and we firmly believe he will help us get results on the field this season."

Velásquez is fresh off of a winter campaign with Isreali side Hapiel Umm al-Fahem and has made 42 appearances with El Paso Locomotive in the past three seasons, including four playoff caps with two goals and an assist.

The Medellín, Colombia, native was selected by Real Salt Lake in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft and made 43 appearances with the club before moving to New York City FC. Velásquez spent time in the NASL and South Korean K League 1 before joining El Paso in the USL in 2019.

"I chose Memphis because I wanted to be on a team that I believe can win a championship," Velásquez said. "With the players we have, the coaching staff, the front office and most importantly the fans, I believe we can be a team that Memphis can be proud of."

Memphis 901 FC opens their 2023 campaign with a matchup against Loudoun United FC on March 11 at AutoZone Park with a 4 p.m. scheduled kickoff time. Fans can purchase full season or single game tickets along with ticket packages at the club website.
