
Melnick Headed to Miami

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- Youngstown Phantoms forward Josh Melnick has announced he will be playing his college hockey for Miami (OH) University following his USHL career. The 19-yeear old becomes the third current Phantom to commit to the school, joining forwards Ryan Lomberg and Kiefer Sherwood who are also committed to playing for the RedHawks.
"I went down for a visit and I really loved it," said Melnick. "All the guys were really nice and showed me what a great program it is, and I just felt really comfortable there."
Hailing from Annandale, NJ, Melnick enjoyed a career year with the Phantoms, dishing out a League-leading 48 assists and scoring a career-high 14 goals. He also rode a career-long 10-game point streak from February 8th -March 7th, recording four goals and handing out 16 assists in that span.
In addition to Lomberg and Sherwood, Melnick will be skating with two more former Phantoms in Conor Lemirande, who skated for the team last season, and Alex Gacek, who suited up the Phantoms from 2010-2012.
"Ryan and Kiefer are two of my best friends, and I had the opportunity to play with Conor last season. Going somewhere where you're comfortable with the people around you is huge," continued Melnick. "We have a lot of chemistry on and off the ice, and I'm really excited to have the opportunity to continue playing with them."
Located in Oxford, OH, Miami University is a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) which, in addition to Miami, includes Colorado College, University of Denver, University of Minnesota-Duluth, University of Nebraska-Omaha, University of North Dakota, St. Cloud State University, and Western Michigan University.
The Phantoms are marching towards their first Clark Cup Championship in team history, and you are invited along for the ride.
