Augusta, NJ - The Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball announced today that Sussex County Miners SS Jarred Mederos is the Pointstreak Can-Am League Player of the Week for the week ending May 20, 2018. For Mederos, it is the first time he has received the honor.

Mederos has had a scorching start to his 2018 season. In the opening weekend four-game series against the Rockland Boulders, the Hialeah, FL native hit .467 with one HR and six RBIs, with the latter mark tying him with two other players for the league lead in RBIs. Jarred also has five Runs Scored and twelve Total Bases, which also leads the league, a Slugging Percentage of .800 that ranks 2nd, and an On-Base Percentage of .556 that checks in at 3rd in the Can-Am. To top off all of the offensive output, Jarred also stole two bases, which has him tied for 2nd in the league.

"It feels great," Mederos said upon receiving the news of the award. "I just want to go out there every day and help my team compete to win."

Mederos, in his second season with the Miners, did all of his offensive damage out of the second spot in Bobby Jones' lineup. Last season, Jarred played 95 games for the Miners, making 89 starts at SS. He is the only position player that returned from last year's playoff squad, the first in the Miners brief history.

"We brought him back for a reason," added Jones. "He's a consistent person. He put the work in (in the offseason), his approach to the game is different. He's seeing pitches, he's hitting line drives, he's doing the things he wants to do offensively, which I think is a great sign."

Mederos and the Miners next play on Wednesday night when the Trois-Rivieres Aigles come to Skylands Stadium for a 3-game series. First pitch on Wednesday night is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
