Meadows Homers Twice, Drives in 5 in CornBelters Victory

NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, profited from two home runs and five RBIs from Nolan Meadows in a 7-2 win over the Southern Illinois Miners on Friday night at the Corn Crib.

The CornBelters put the game's first run on the board with a lead-off second-inning home run to the right field berm by Meadows.

The Miners tied the contest at 1-1 in the third inning on three hits with the RBI coming on an infield single by Nolan Earley.

The Belters took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning when Meadows led off with a double, was sacrificed to third and scored on a wild pitch.

Southern Illinois again countered in the fifth with the second triple of the game by Craig Massey and a sacrifice fly to left by Alex DeLeon to even the affair at 2-2.

The CornBelters took advantage of three walks in the fifth inning as Meadows lofted a grand slam to the right field lawn to surge ahead 6-2.

The Belters picked up an insurance run in the eighth when Elvin Rodriguez led off with a walk, went to second on a Ty Morris single, stole third and scored when a pop-up to shallow left by Aaron Dudley fell untouched.

Horacio Acosta (8-3) earned the win with six innings on the hill, giving up two earned runs on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Dyllon Nuernberg (6-5) suffered the loss with four and two-thirds innings of work, giving up five earned runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

The series continues Saturday at 6:35 p.m. at the Corn Crib as the CornBelters send Charlie Gillies (5-2, 2.96 ERA) to the mound while the Miners go with Clayton Sessions (0-2, 3.91) in a match-up of right-handers. The game can be heard live on WJBC.com beginning at 6:20.
