Buffalo Destroyers News Release

(BUFFALO, NY) - The Buffalo Destroyers announced QB Fred McNair and OL/DL David Caldwell have been named co-captains this season. McNair and Caldwell were selected by team vote.

"They were chosen by their peers and it speaks highly of both Fred and David," said Destroyers head coach and general manager Ray Bentley. "This was a great choice by the team."

McNair, who was traded from Carolina in the off-season, is ranked in the top eight in the AFL all-time in the passes attempted, passes completed and passing yards. Over his eight-year career, McNair has completed over 57% of his passes, while throwing for 16, 591 yards and 291 touchdowns.

"It is an honor to come in and be able to earn the respect of my teammates," McNair said. "I want to be someone the team can rely on not only on the field, but off it as well."

Caldwell, in his third season with the Destroyers, is tied for third all-time in the AFL in seasons played at 10. He was named team Ironman after the 2000 season.

"It feels good to know that our players have the confidence in me to be a leader," said Caldwell. "Being a captain takes a lot of work and I look forward to the responsibility."

McNair and Caldwell are roommates during the season and played three seasons together in Albany for 1993-95.

The Destroyers also announced they have signed OL/DL Joe Rumolo to the practice squad. Rumolo appeared in three games last season with the Pensacola Barracudas of the AF2 recording one and a half tackles.

The Destroyers open the regular season Friday, April 19 at 7:30 PM as they welcome the New Jersey Gladiators to the HSBC Arena. Season and group tickets are on sale now. Call 881-4444 today!
