Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Harlingen, TX - The Harlingen WhiteWings traded Sam McLain to the San Angelo Colts for a player to be named later. McLain will be the starting left fielder for the Colts.

Bub Bergstrom will start in left field for the WhiteWings after David Fowler was brought in from St. Joe (American Association) to start in center field. McLain spent the last two seasons with the WhiteWings, hitting .266 with seven home runs and 62 RBI in 142 games as the starting left fielder.

McLain's best year was 2006, his first in professional baseball, when he hit .286 with three home runs and 26 RBI. He hit a career-high 19 doubles while getting on-base at a career-high .381 clip.

One of McLain's strengths was defense. Perhaps his most memorable moment was during his last game in a WhiteWings uniform, in game four of last year's United League Championship Series. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the second inning, already down 1-0, Alexandria's Selwyn Langaigne hit a deep drive to left field that McLain made a leaping catch of at the wall to save two and maybe three runs.

McLain is scheduled to return to Harlingen Field with the Colts for the first time on Thursday, June 5th, at 7:05 p.m.
