Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Harlingen, TX - Infielder Candelario Perez of Matamoros, Mexico, will be on the opening day roster for the Harlingen WhiteWings. Perez is the first Mexican-born player to play for the WhiteWings in United League Baseball history.

The 5'11, 155-pound right-handed hitter has shown off the ability to field the ball to his right and still get off a quick, accurate and strong throw to first base.

"He is one of the exciting players on this year's squad," Manager Al Gallagher said. "He has made the team and has a great chance [to play]." The 22-year old has taken ground balls at third base, shortstop and second base.

Perez is no stranger to Harlingen Field or the United League after playing for Harlingen during the 2007 Winter League, where his team finished runner up to the Brownsville Toros.

The regular season begins tomorrow night when the WhiteWings travel to play the two-time defending United League Champion Alexandria Aces. The WhiteWings will return to Harlingen Field on Tuesday, May 20th when they host the Edinburg Coyotes on Opening Night. Fans attending this game will receive FREE admission courtesy of Family Health Specialists.
