Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs and Flint Generals found themselves in a goaltending battle Friday night at the Rockford MetroCentre, and the Generals topped the Hogs 2-0 in front of 4,096. The Generals tallied two third period goals, including an empty netter to earn the win.
After two scoreless periods, Flint rookie Mike Kinnie maneuvered into the Rockford zone and fired a shot over the shoulder of new Hogs goalie Seamus Kotyk just 2:54 into the period. The Hogs failed to solve Generals goalie Dan McIntyre as he came up with big save after big save and needed only the one-goal cushion.
The game wasn't iced until late in the third period when Flint forward Jim Duhart shot home an empty net goal. Center Rob Valicevic won a draw deep in the Flint zone and Duhart shot the puck the length of the ice at 18:53.
McIntyre out-dueled Kotyk and turned away all 29 Rockford shots. Kotyk, in his first game in an IceHogs uniform after being assigned from the Milwaukee Admirals, played sharp but was saddled with the loss after making 21 saves.
Next Home Game: Saturday, January 29 vs. Kansas City Outlaws. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive an exclusive IceHogs baseball hat from Wireless One, WXRX, 104.9 FM and 23WIFR.
