Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz Owner Phil Miller has named Charles ‘Sparky' McEwen as the team's Head Coach for the remainder of the 2008 season. McEwen becomes the fifth head coach in Yard Dawgz history after former Head Coach Gary Reasons officially announced his resignation earlier this week.

McEwen brings extensive arena football experience back to the Yard Dawgz. Most recently, he was the Head Coach for the Arena Football League's Grand Rapid Rampage (2005-2007). McEwen was the first Offensive Coordinator in Yard Dawgz team history and led the team to a 10-6 record and their first playoff appearance in 2004. He served as the Offensive Coordinator and Youth Development Director for the Rampage from 2001-2003 and was a Pro Scout for the team in 2000. McEwen first joined the AFL as the Rampage QB in 1998.

"We have the utmost respect for Coach McEwen and feel he can make an immediate impact within our organization. We have ten regular season games remaining and will strive to make the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season, which has been one of our team goals since the start of training camp," commented Yard Dawgz General Manager Christie Cook.

McEwen returned to the Yard Dawgz as the Assistant Head Coach after the worst start in franchise history and four consecutive losses. He took over the head coaching duties after Gary Reasons' resignation and will be evaluating both the assistant coaching staff and the Yard Dawgz roster.

"We have a base of players who I think we can win with," McEwen said.

The Yard Dawgz will host the Iowa Barnstormers on Saturday, May 17th at 7:05 p.m. on Compassionate Care Hospice Field at Ford Center. For more information, please visit www.okcyarddawgz.com or call 405-228-3294.
