Amarillo Venom News Release
AMARILLO, TEXAS Students in elementary and middle schools are being encouraged to learn about possible careers. Some Amarillo Dusters players, coaches, and staff will be at two different schools this week to tell students about being in professional sports.
"It is never too early for kids to start thinking about what they want to be when they grow up," vice president Joe Morgado said. "Professional sports can seem like it is a glamorous profession, but it is good for them to see the hard work that players, coaches, and staff have to put in on a daily basis."
Thursday, fourth graders at Eastridge Elementary School will get to talk with a couple of players and a staff member, as well as assistant head coach, Victor Hall.
"People often don't realize what goes into putting together a professional sporting event," Morgado said. "Career fairs are a great opportunity for students to learn the different ways that they can get involved in professional sports without being athletes."
On Friday, students at Travis Middle School will have the chance to talk with a Dusters staff member about how the front office works.
"Being a part of different career days is another way that the Dusters are involved in the community," Morgado said. "These student get to talk directly with a player, coach, or staff member, then see them in action at a game which brings the whole experience together."
The Dusters will be traveling to California this week to take on the Stockton Lightning. Catch all the action by following the links on www.dustersfootball.com to Nifty TV. Fans can also listen live on KPUR 107.1 FM in Amarillo and KGYN 1210 AM in Guymon, Oklahoma. The Dusters will return home on June 7 to battle the Arkansas Twisters.
