McCormick Scores Twice in 4-2 Loss at Toronto

TORONTO, ONT.  - Max McCormick scored twice, including a shorthanded goal, but it wasn't enough as the Binghamton Senators fell 4-2 to the Toronto Marlies in front of 5,132 fans at Ricoh Coliseum on Friday night.
The Marlies struck on the power play 10:25 into the game. Seth Griffith sent a pass from the center point to Mike Sislo in the left wing circle and he fired a one timer by goaltender Matt O'Connor for the 1-0 lead. The goal was Sislo's ninth of the season assisted by Griffith and Cal O'Reilly.
Just over five minutes later Toronto took a two-goal lead. Griffith cashed in on another assist as he intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and moved quickly over the blue line into attacking territory. Griffith tapped the puck to defenseman Andrew Campbell who cut across the slot and beat O'Connor for his fifth of the season. The goal came at 15:49 with the lone assist going to Griffith for his 26th helper of the year. After one period, the Marlies led 2-0 and outshot the B-Sens 11-5.
Binghamton respond on a power play of its own early in the second period cutting Toronto's lead in half. Gabriel Gagne took the puck from the left side and fired it across the ice to Francis Perron in the right circle. Perron settled the pass and found McCormick in front of the net for his 17th of the year. Assists on McCormick's tally were given to Gagne and Perron at the 5:08 mark and the B-Sens trailed 2-1. The B-Sens trailed 2-1 heading into the final period and were outshot 24-17.
Defenseman Justin Holl put the Marlies back up two goals early in the final period. Sislo fed Holl coming down from the blue line and he snapped a shot over the glove of O'Connor for his fifth of the year. Sislo recorded his second point of the night on the first assist while O'Reilly was credited with his second assist of the game for the 3-1 lead.
McCormick struck again, this time shorthanded, to pull the B-Sens within a goal. With Casey Bailey in the box, Patrick Sieloff wound up for a shot but dished the puck to Phil Varone down the left side. Varone fed McCormick going to the net for his second of the night and 18th of the year at 8:25 of the third to cut Toronto's lead to 3-2.
Just under three minutes later, Toronto regained its two-goal advantage over Binghamton on the power play. Sislo beat a diving O'Connor for his second goal of the evening and 10th of the year for a 4-2 lead. The goal came at 11:23 of the final period with assists from Andreas Johnsson and Kerby Rychel.
O'Connor stopped 28 in the loss while Kasimir Kaskisuo put away 28 of 30 in the win.
