
Crunch Fall to Comets, 4-3

UTICA, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch scored two goals in 30 seconds to tie the game in the third period, but the Utica Comets were able to pull ahead and take a 4-3 victory tonight at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
After going down by two, Henri Ikonen put the Crunch on the board in the second period. Mike Halmo found the back of the net early in the third followed just seconds by Tye McGinn. The loss puts the Crunch at 31-21-6-5 on the season and 4-4-1-0 in the 12-game season series.
Mike McKenna turned aside 21-of-25 shots on net between the pipes for the Crunch. Thatcher Demko recorded the win with 34 saves. Syracuse was 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Comets scored first with 9:38 remaining in =86he opening period. Borna Rendulic lit the lamp with a shot from the high slot off assists from Pascal Pelletier and Colby Robak.
Pelletier doubled Utica's lead at the 14:42 mark the middle stanza. Michael Carcone kicked the puck out from the end boards for the center to chip in. Borna Rendulic recorded the secondary helper.
With 2:16 remaining in the second period, the Crunch got on the board with a power-play goal. Adam Comrie fed Ikonen in the slot. He skated in to face Demko, deked and beat the netminder five-hole. McGinn earned a point with the secondary assist.
The Comets went back up by two with a power-play goal of their own 4:05 into the third period when Darren Archibald tipped Evan McEneny's right point shot.
Syracuse scored twice in thirty seconds to tie the game beginning at the 6:31 mark. Ikonen sent a centering feed from the right corner for Halmo to bury from the crease. Slater Koekkoek added an assist. Seconds later, Erik Condra passed up to McGinn who sent home a bouncing puck while cutting across the slot.
At the 8:15 mark, Utica regained the lead and carried it through the end of the game. Jordan Subban ripped one from the blue line that was tipped down low by Mike Zalewski.
The Crunch host the Albany Devils tomorrow at 7 p.m.
