
McCord Continues to Rake, but Sox Fall to Black Bears

WENATCHEE, Wash. - Despite leading 3-0 after five innings, the Wenatchee AppleSox (16-24, 5-9 second half) lost to the Cowlitz Black Bears, 6-3, on Tuesday night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium.
Connor McCord continued his torrid stretch at the plate with a 3-for-5 day. The incoming junior at Western Oregon hit his fourth home run in the last seven days and his third in the last four days. McCord is now hitting .478 (11-for-23) in his last four games with four consecutive multi-hit games.
Johnny Sage also had a productive day at the plate, reaching base four times, going 3-for-4 with three singles and a walk.
In the bottom of the first, Sage singled with two outs, swiped second and scored a single by McCord. The first baseman's sixth RBI in the last four days made it 1-0, Sox. His seventh run-driven-in came in the fifth when McCord led off with a solo shot just inside the right-field foul pole.
Before that home run made it 3-0, Sox, Jake Taylor blasted his fourth of the season over the right-field fence for the Sox' second run of the game.
In the top of the sixth, a two-base error with one out put a runner at third. An RBI single by Cole Jones put the Black Bears on the board and two batters later, a two-run homer tied it up.
The next inning, the Black Bears took the lead when eight men came to the plate and three scored on a two-RBI single by Jones made it 5-3 and a sixth run came across on a wild pitch.
The loss puts an end to the Sox' two-game winning streak. They'll look to even the series up on Wednesday night when they face Cowlitz again at 7:05 p.m.
