Nashville Sounds News Release
The Milwaukee Brewers acquired right-handed reliever Seth McClung from Tampa Bay in exchange for former Sounds reliever Grant Balfour on Friday evening.
McClung has been optioned to Triple-A Nashville and is expected to be in uniform for the Sounds for their 6 p.m. series opener against Sacramento on Saturday evening at Greer Stadium.
The 6-foot-6 right-hander was spent the entire 2007 season with Triple-A Durham, where he was 1-5 with a 1.99 ERA and five saves in 40 relief appearances.
McClung held International League opponents to a .184 batting average, a mark that is 3rd-best among Triple-A relievers. He ranks 4th among all Class AAA relievers with 10.43 strikeouts per nine innings (68 K in 58.2 IP).
The native of Lewisburg, West Virginia has logged 85 Major League appearances for the Devil Rays over the last four seasons after being selected by Tampa Bay in the fifth round of the June 1999 draft.
An additional roster move will have to be made by the Sounds to add him to their active roster.
