Memphis, Tenn. - Sacramento scratched out a late run Friday night to down Memphis 4-3 at AutoZone Park in front of 12,011 fans.
Dee Brown led off the eighth inning with a double and came around to score on a Mike McCoy error to give the River Cats a 4-2 lead. Tagg Bozied brought the Redbirds within a run in the bottom half of the inning with his 16th home run of the year. However, Ruddy Lugo came on and struck out Mike Ferris with the bases loaded to end the threat. Lugo worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his seventh save of the year.
Jorge Piedra and J.D. Closser each hit solo home runs for Sacramento with Piedra going 2-for-2. Ferris hit his first Triple-A home run and scored twice for the âBirds. Bozied and Edgar Gonzalez each had two hits apiece to lead Memphis.
Colby Lewis picked up his sixth victory of the year with five innings of work. He allowed two runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Blake Hawksworth took his 11th loss of the year after giving up three runs on five hits over five innings.
Memphis will welcome Fresno to town to begin a four-game series tomorrow night. The Redbirds will send Matt Ginter to the mound to face the Grizzlies Matt Kinney. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m.
