McClennon Leads WHL Performances at 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

Canada may have been left off the podium at the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, but their players left their mark on the tournament regardless, led by a strong crop of Western Hockey League talent in Saint John and Quispamsis, New Brunswick.

The top WHL performances were led by forward Connor McClennon (Kootenay ICE), who led the tournament in scoring with 11 points (8G-3A) while also leading the tournament in goals as a member of Canada White. At the conclusion of the tournament, McClennon was named to the tournament all-star team.

Canada White captain Jake Neighbours (Edmonton Oil Kings) posted six points (3G-3A) in five games. Playing for Canada Black, Kyle Crnkovic (Saskatoon Blades) put up five points (4G-1A), tying a similar performance from Seth Jarvis (Portland Winterhawks), who finished with five points (2G-3A).

Ozzy Wiesblatt (Prince Albert Raiders) of Canada Black tallied three points (1G-2A). Canada Red captain Kaiden Guhle (Prince Albert Raiders) also recorded three points (3G) while teammate Justin Sourdif (Vancouver Giants) put up three points (1G-2A) myself.

Between the pipes, Dylan Garand (Kamloops Blazers) led all Canadian goaltenders with a 2.33 goals-against-average and a 0.930 save percentage, playing 258 minutes for Canada Red, who finished fourth at the tournament. Garin Bjorklund (Medicine Hat Tigers) finished as a close second among Canadian goaltenders with a 2.42 GAA and 0.919 SV% for Canada Black. Sebastian Cossa (Edmonton Oil Kings) appeared in a pair of games, posting a 3.00 GAA and a 0.895 SV%.
