Soo Greyhounds News Release
The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club is pleased to announce that their first two selections from this past April's OHL Priority Selection - JARED MCCANN and KEVIN SPINOZZI - have both been signed to Standard Player Agreements.
The two newest Hounds were introduced to local media at a press conference held at the Essar Centre earlier this afternoon.
"I want to thank both both the McCann and Spinozzi families for making the committment to become Greyhounds at this time. It was clear right after the draft that both players wanted to sign and I am thankful for the efforts of each players agent, Joe Resnick (McCann) and Gilles Lupien (Spinozzi) for making this process a very painless one" began GM Kyle Dubas.
"Often times, there is a myth that we struggle to get players to report to Sault Ste. Marie. And here again, today, you have two players from very different parts of Ontario who jumped at the chance to become Greyhounds."
McCann, a product of the London Knights Gold Minor Midgets, was selected by the Hounds in the 1st Round (4th overall). In 67 regular season games played in 2011-12 he had 61 goals and 70 assists, good for 131 points and 32 penalty minutes and a +141 rating. Jared and his teammates defeated the Sun County Panthers to capture the Alliance Championship this past season. At the OHL Cup, the left-shooting centreman tallied 2 goals and 8 assists good for 10 points in 5 games played.
Spinozzi was taken by the Hounds in the 2nd Round (34th overall) from the Greater Kingston Minor Midgets.
In 32 games played, the left-shooting defenseman had 8 goals and 12 assists good for 20 points.
"We are thrilled today to be able to announce the signing of Jared and Kevin. We look forward to working with both families over the next number of seasons to ensure that both young men maximize their potential while playing in Sault Ste. Marie" concluded Dubas.
Jared and Kevin will join 42 other participants at the Hounds Spring Development Camp which begins tomorrow (Friday) with registration and off-ice testing. Fans will have three opportunities to see the players in scrimmage action both Saturday (10 a.m. / 5:30 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m.).
