Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Tim Doherty have agreed to terms with right-hander Cody McAllister for the 2009 season.
McAllister, 25, posted a team-high eight wins last season, finishing 8-4 with a 4.43 ERA in 87 and one-thirds innings. He ended the season tied for third in the league in wins and was seventh in ERA. McAllister allowed just 82 hits while posting an opponent's average of.246 in 31 appearances, eight starts.
"Cody will enter the season as a starter, probably in the third or fourth spot," said Doherty. "We look for him to continue his success in that role this year."
McAllister joined the T-Bones after spending his first two seasons in the Boston Red Sox organization. Prior to his release following the 2008 season, the Washington state native posted a 4-2 record with a 3.31 ERA in 54 and one-thirds innings of relief with Class A Lancaster of the California League. He held opponents to a miniscule.198 average that season and enters the 2010 campaign with a career mark of.239.
On June 21 last season, McAllister made his first professional start, earning the victory against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks after allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits over six innings. He won each of his first three starts, holding opponents to two runs in each of those contests. The right-hander finished 5-2 in his eight starts on the season.
The T-Bones begin their 2010 campaign against the RailCats in Gary, IN on May 20 and will host the RedHawks in their home opener on May 28.
