Monterey Bay FC News Release
MONTEREY, Calif. - On Halloween at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Nurse Sarah Kendall created individual Halloween costumes for all of the babies in the Family Birth Center & Intermediate Intensive Care Nursery. For one of the infants, the costume was MBFC-inspired - and the Club took notice. In response, Monterey Bay Football Club (Monterey Bay F.C.) and goalkeeper Carlos Herrera visited CHOMP on Friday, November 3 to surprise Kendall and present her with a customized, special-edition Breast Cancer Awareness Night jersey as a thank you.
The Club was made aware of the costume through a social media post that was shared by Montage Health, and immediately connected with both Catherine Powers, Director, and Joy Suber, Assistant Director of the Family Birth Center & Intermediate Intensive Care Nursery. Kendall was shocked and overwhelmed by the surprise visit, immediately put her new MBFC jersey on to wear for the rest of the work day and said that she would definitely be wearing it to a match next season.
In addition, Monterey Bay F.C. brought scarves and pins to all 15 nurses at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), as well as some additional scarves to other excited on-duty employees. Before the end of the visit, Herrera was able to meet the five nurses that were currently on duty at the NICU, and thanked them for their support and the warm welcome.
