MBF Grant Applications Now Available

Applications for the 2010 Michigan Baseball Foundation grants are now available. The application can be downloaded at www.loons.com or picked up at Dow Diamond, weekdays from 9am-5pm.

The Michigan Baseball Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity that was founded in 2006 to create regional economic development through creative partnerships and to enhance the efforts of regional organizations that serve young people. The Michigan Baseball Foundation owns and operates Dow Diamond, home of the Great Lakes Loons, a Class A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Over the past two years, MBF has awarded 56 grants totaling $200,590 to non-profit organizations from nine regional counties.

The decision to fund an organization's project will be determined by whether one or more of the following guidelines are met. These guidelines reflect the purposes for which the Michigan Baseball Foundation has been organized:

* The organization contributes to regional economic development by expanding employment opportunities and

promoting the general welfare of the area.

* The organization is based in the Mid-Michigan area and serves young people.

* The funded project promotes amateur sports.

The Michigan Baseball Foundation will consider funding non-profit organizations from the Great Lakes Bay Region that use the grant money to fund projects; the grants are not intended to fund day-to-day operations. Primary consideration will be given to organizations in Midland, Bay, Saginaw, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Isabella, Genesee, Tuscola, Huron, Arenac, and Iosco counties. Strong consideration will also be given to organizations that have:

* A practical financial development plan either in place or underway

* A strong infrastructure and solid operational plan or strategy in place or under development

* Dynamic leadership both at the management level and on the governing board(s)

* Strategic alliances with other public and private agencies, businesses, and individuals

* A system for evaluating and developing their programs, management, and staff to keep the organization viable and effective

All grant applications must be received by the Michigan Baseball Foundation (P.O. Box 365; Midland, MI 48640) by January 15, 2010 via mail or in person at Dow Diamond. Grant recipients will be notified by mid-March, 2010. Recipients will also be asked to respond to the Michigan Baseball Foundation Board of Directors on the success of the project for which the grant was used.
