Florence RedWolves News Release
The Florence RedWolves announce that 2014 head coach Blake Maxwell will return for the 2015 season. Maxwell led the RedWolves to the CPL's Western Division Title and took Florence to a deciding game three in the league championship. Under Maxwell the RedWolves had their best on field success in the team's history including most wins (41), 3rd overall in the league in team batting average (.270), 2nd in the league in team ERA (3.22) and 1st in team defense (.978). Great individual accomplishments were made under Maxwell this summer as well, as both pitcher Mike Morrison (Coastal), and outfield Gene Cone (USC), were named league MVP's in 2014. Morrison led the league in saves (18), which tied the CPL all time record for the regular season. Cone led the league in hitting with a .385 average and was in the top 5 in slugging percentage, on base percentage, and runs scored. He was 4th in the league with hits (60), and 3rd in the league in doubles with 18. Ryan Griffith (Furman) led the league in wins with 7.
"I am very excited to return as the head coach of the RedWolves for the summer of 2015. This past summer was one of the best baseball experiences of my entire life and I am looking forward to another great summer. The success of the 2014 team was awesome, but the goal for 2015 will not only be to return to the Petitt Cup Finals, but to win the championship. We hope to have some returners off of the 2014 team, as well as several new faces for the 2015 season. The fan support this past summer was great, and hopefully we will be able to put together another group of guys who will be very talented baseball players and who will put on a good show for the city of Florence." Blake Maxwell, head coach.
"Blake did an outstanding job for the RedWolves this summer and that was his goal when he signed on with us." "The team came up just short of winning it all and he is looking forward to next season when we bring home the championship to Florence." Blake has already started the recruiting process for next summer and that roster should make for great baseball for the fans to watch in 2015." Kevin Barth, team owner.
The Florence RedWolves is a 17 year member of the Coastal Plain League, which is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 19th season in 2015, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.
