Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks season ended by way of a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Colorado Eagles Thursday night at Independence Events Center. The Eagles took three of four games from the Mavs in the best-of-five Turner Conference Semifinals. The Eagles now move on to the Turner Conference Finals to face either the Fort Wayne Komets or Rapid City Rush, as the Mavericks now look ahead to the 2011-12 CHL regular season.

The Eagles wasted little time establishing the pace of the game, getting a goal from Kyle Peto at the 4:45 mark of the first period. Scott May was credited with an assist on the goal. The Eagles doubled their lead three minutes later, this time on a goal from Adam Chorneyko. May was given his second assist of the night. The period ended with the Eagles holding a 2-0 lead. The Mavericks outshot the Eagles 10-9 in the period.

The second period went without much incident until the final minute of the frame, when the Mavericks were awarded a five-on-three power play for 50 seconds. Nick Sirota buried a rebound attempt from Ray DiLauro and cut the lead in half, making it a 2-1 game headed into the second intermission. DiLauro and Ryan Jardine were given the assists on Sirota's goal. The Mavs once again outshot the Eagles in the period, 15-10 and had outshot the Eagles 25-19 through two periods.

The Mavs were unable to notch a game-tying goal in the final period and fell to the Eagles, 2-1, losing the game and series. The Mavs outshot the Eagles 35-24 in the game. The Mavs finished zero-for-four on the power play and killed off all six Eagles' power play advantages.

The Mavericks will hold a season celebration Friday evening at Independence Events Center for all fans. Players will be available for autographs and photos throughout the event.
