High Desert Mavericks News Release
ADELANTO, CA â The Mavericks have a new voice. The High Desert Mavericks announced today that Roxy Bernstein will be the new "Voice of the Mavs" for the 2004 season.
Bernstein comes to the Mavs with a wealth of experience and a diverse broadcasting background. Currently Bernstein is wrapping up his seventh season as the play-by-play voice of the University of California at Berkeley Men's basketball team. He also is part of the Cal Bears football broadcast team as sideline reporter, locker room host, and play-by-play announcer during some home games.
Bernstein's baseball experience comes in major league form. He was the primary fill in broadcaster for the San Francisco Giants during the 2003 season and also broadcasted games for the Montreal Expos and Tacoma Rainiers during 2003. This will be Bernstein's first full season broadcasting position with an affiliated team.
"I'm truly excited about the opportunity with the Mavericks," said Bernstein. "I'm looking forward to a thrilling summer of getting to broadcast baseball everyday for a quality organization. There is nothing like being with a team and being around baseball everyday."
Bernstein will be broadcasting all 140 Mavericks games, home and away, for High Desert on the radio.
"We are excited to have a broadcaster of Roxy's caliber come on board with the Mavs," said Mavericks General Manager Bruce Mann. "I think the fans will really enjoy Roxy's broadcasts. This should be a fun summer with him behind the mic."
Bernstein replaces the Mavs recently departed broadcaster Michael Lindskog, who left to take a position with the AA El Paso Diablos.
"Mike has set a good standard and will be a tough act to follow," explained Bernstein. "I hope I can connect with he fans as well as he did the last few years. It may be hard, he set the bar pretty high, but I hope fans will warm up to me and receive me well."
Fans can catch Roxy for all 140 Mavericks games on the radio on KFROG affiliate 910AM and on the internet at www.live365.com.
The Mavericks open the 2004 season on April 8 in Lancaster. The Mavericks home opener is on Monday, April 12 at 7:05 versus the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Opening Night Fireworks and Clothing Drive on April 12 are sponsored by The Alpha Connection Youth and Family Services.
