Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks took a 4-2 victory in-front of a record breaking crowd of 5,900 Mavericks fans on New Year's Eve at the Independence Events Center. The Mavs trailed 0-1 for the first two periods, until Evan Vossen launched Missouri's third period comeback with an unassisted, short-handed goal.
A quiet first period did not stop the Oilers from drawing first blood with a quick rebound goal by Tulsa forward, Todd Robinson to start the game at 1-0 Oilers less than 4 minutes into play. The second period did not fare any better for the Mavericks, who try as they might, could not capitalize on 4 power-play opportunities over the Oilers.
The third period is when the magic happened for the Mavericks, fired up by Evan Vossen's unassisted, short-handed goal to put Missouri on the board, Mike Ramsay and Colten Hayes each put up lamp-lighters for the Mavs in a span of only four minutes to take control of the game 3-1.
The Oilers were not done putting up a fight, and Kyle Bochek scored to keep his team in the running and cut the Mavericks lead 3-2. It was not until the final 5 seconds of play that Missouri was able to find another goal, with Dave Pszenyczny scoring on Tulsa's empty net to secure the 4-2 win.
Central Hockey League Goaltender of the Week, Shane Owen, showed a tremendous effort between the pipes for the Mavs, making 31 saves and keeping the Oilers at bay through with a fantastic display of net minder skill.
The Missouri Mavericks play their next four games at home, starting with a back-to-back weekend series with the Brampton Beast. This is the first time in CHL history that these two teams will face-off, don't miss out on any of the action!
