Kansas City Mavericks News Release
ALLEN, TEXAS - The Missouri Mavericks fell 5-1 to the Allen Americans on Wednesday night in Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals of the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs. Allen now leads the Round 2 series 2-1, but Missouri will get their chance to even the race this Friday, May 6 at 7:05p.m. at Allen Event Center.
"We did not play our game and we just weren't good enough tonight," said Richard Matvichuk, Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations for the Missouri Mavericks. "We know what we need to do and we will have a good practice tomorrow to get ready for Friday."
The defending Kelly Cup Champion Allen Americans jumped out to an early lead when defenseman Eric Roy connected with a slap shot just 31 seconds into the game. Then Vincent Arseneau scored his first goal of the playoffs with a snipe from the point past Mavs' goaltender Parker Milner at the 6:40 mark of the opening frame. The Mavs were outshot 17-7 through the first twenty minutes of play.
Josh Holmstrom cut into the Americans' lead with a short-handed drive to the net with the help of Rocco Carzo-the third short-handed goal of the playoffs for Missouri. Holmstrom's third goal of the post-season, scored at 7:36 of the second frame, would end up the Mavs only goal of the game.
Allen took advantage of a power-play opportunity at 13:59 of the second period when Greger Hanson scored to make it 3-1 Americans.
Missouri came back into the final period of regulation with an aggressive start, but goaltender Riley Gill was able to hold off all of the Mavericks attempts in the crease.
Spencer Asuchak topped off the Game 3 score sheet with back-to-back goals for the Americans, first netting an unassisted tally at 15:40, followed by an empty-net goal with just 2:00 remaining on the clock for a 5-1 Allen win.
The Missouri Mavericks will play the Allen Americans in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals on Friday, May 6 at Allen Event Center. Puck drop is set for 7:05p.m. Fans are invited to watch all the action at the Missouri Mavericks official Round 2 away game watch party locations: The Blue Line (Kansas City, MO) and Rock & Brews (Overland Park, KS).
