Maury Wills to Sign Autographs for Aces Fans

Two-time Gold Glove shortstop and 1962 National League MVP Maury Wills will visit Alexandria and Bringhurst Field Monday, June 9.

Wills will visit with fans and sign autographs at the Aces game against the Fort Worth Cats.

During the 1962 season, he set single-season records for games played (165) and stolen bases (104). He also led the league with 695 at bats and 10 triples while finishing second with 130 runs scored and 208 hits.

He led the NL in stolen bases six straight years from 1960-1965 and was selected to seven All-Star games.

The Central Baseball League, preparing for its 10th season of independent baseball, will play a 96-game schedule between May and August 2003.

The 10-member league has teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Rio Grande Valley (Harlingen), San Angelo, Robstown (Corpus Christi) and Ft. Worth, Texas; Alexandria and Shreveport, La.; Springfield/Ozark, Mo.; and Jackson, Miss.
