Syracuse Mets News Release

Syracuse Chiefs first baseman Matt Skole will receive his 2016 Minor League Baseball Rawlings Gold Glove during an on-field pregame ceremony before Thursday's 6:35 p.m. game against the Pawtucket Red Sox. Presenting Skole with the award will be MiLB President Pat O'Connor, Rawlings Northeastern Sales Manager Dan Olson, and Nationals Director of Player Development Mark Scialabba.

Skole is one of nine players selected among qualifying players from the 10 domestic-based, full-season Minor Leagues for defensive excellence in the 2016 season. Skole posted a .999 fielding percentage in 97 games played at first base for the Chiefs last year, making just one error in 874 chances. Matt played in 140 of Syracuse's 143 games overall with a .997 fielding percentage.

Skole is the third Chief in the last six years (Steve Lombardozzi (2B), 2011; Taylor Hill (P), 2013) and 46th overall to win the award. He will receive a Rawlings Gold Glove Award, modeled after the award given to Major League Baseball's top defenders.

Tickets for Thursday's game, the second $1 Thursday of the season, along with all other Chiefs games are available at the Syracuse Chiefs Ticket Office, by calling 474-7833, or visiting syracusechiefs.com .
