Knights Roll Past the Tides 8-3 on Tuesday

UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC-- Dressed in their 1990 throwback uniforms, the Charlotte Knights turned back the clock and continued their impressive play at home this season.

RHP Carson Fulmer tossed 5.1 solid innings, Charlotte's offense swatted four home runs, and the Knights beat the Norfolk Tides in the opening game of their three-game series from BB&T Ballpark by a score of 8-3. With the win, the Knights improved to 5-0 against the Tides at BB&T Ballpark this season and 8-2 overall in Uptown Charlotte in 2017.

Offensively, the Knights put on a show against RHP Chris Tillman (0-1, 9.00), who was pitching for the Tides on a major league rehab assignment from the Baltimore Orioles. Tillman, a 2013 American League All-Star, allowed five runs on five hits over five innings and was saddled with the loss. Tillman gave up four home runs and two walks, while fanning six batters.

Charlotte launched three of their four home runs in the second inning off Tillman. Danny Hayes, Adam Engel, and Yoan Moncada all homered in the inning to push the Knights out to an early 4-0 lead. The home runs for Hayes and Moncada were their fifth of the season. Engel hit his second of the year. One inning later, Ryan Raburn launched his third of the season. Raburn finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple, and three RBIs.

Fulmer (3-1, 3.18) earned the win after allowing just one run on two hits in his fifth start of the season. The Vanderbilt University product improved to 3-0 with a 2.08 ERA in three starts at BB&T Ballpark this season. LHP Matt Purke came on in the sixth inning and went on to pitch 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. In the eighth inning, LHP Cory Luebke, who was activated off the DL before the game, allowed just one hit over a scoreless innings. RHP Brad Goldberg gave up two runs (one earned) in the ninth, but the Knights held on for the commanding 8-3 win.

The Knights will continue their six-game homestand on Wednesday with game two of the three-game series. RHP Lucas Giolito (0-3, 6.63) will get the start for the Knights against the Norfolk Tides LHP Chris Lee (1-1, 5.94). Pre-game coverage will begin at 11:00 a.m. on CharlotteKnights.com. Long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on the team's official website. The game will also be broadcast live at 11:00 a.m. on Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
