MUSKEGON, MI.--- Having completed the International Hockey Leagues inaugural weekend with an extraordinary, enormous performance in the form of a Saturday night, home opening night 9-2 conquest of Bloomington, the Muskegon Lumberjacks are realizing some special benefits for individual player personnel league-wide.
On this date, the Lumberjacks, in conjunction with the IHL, have announced that defenseman MATT KRUG has been hailed and heralded as the IHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK for the weekend of October 16th through October 18th.
KRUG, 24, achieved an utterly masterful home ice debut on Saturday night, emerging as a major catalyst, offensively, in his teams domination of the Prairie Thunder club. Skating a regular shift on the right defense, the Southfield, MI native crafted a brilliant 4-points masterpiece which included his first-ever pro goal and 3-assists while earning a solid +2 rating. The 6-0, 215lb collegiate hockey product helped spark the Lumberjacks opening period 3-goal flurry in 4:16 to snap a scoreless duel and catapult the Jacks into an insurmountable 3-0 advantage. Krug connected for the second goal of the siege, For his stellar efforts, he was accorded #2 Star honors for the contest.
After the opening week of the 2009-10 IHL campaign, the former standout from Wayne State U. and Robert Morris U., has attained the top spot in the IHL in both rookie scoring and defense point-productivity with 2(1-3-4).
Coming up this weekend, Krug and the Lumberjacks continue their extended 4-game homestand at Walker Arena with a pair of appearances.
This Friday night, October 16th, the Jacks tangle with the Dayton Gems in a 7:00 pm opening face-off. There will be special pre-game ceremonies conducted as Muskegon continues to salute and celebrate 50-years of pro hockey in Muskegon.
Muskegon Lumberjacks all-time great Jock Callander will come back to Walker Arena to have his famous #15 jersey retired. To this day, Callander remains as the greatest point-scoring star in IHL history with a grand total of 1,402 points.
Friday night, as all Friday nights in this 50th Anniversary Season, will be $1 Beer Night.
On Sunday, when the Jacks host rival Port Huron, it will be another of the Lumberjacks famous $5 Sundays at 5! For all Sunday home games this season, all seats for everyone are specially priced at only $5.
