Port Huron Icehawks News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks and local radio station WSAQ, Q-Country 107.1 FM are looking for the Blue Water Area's best karaoke singers. The first ever Gordie Howe #9 Karaoke Contest will give local singers the chance to put their talent on display during Icehawks games and compete for great prizes.

The contest kicked off yesterday and runs for three weeks. Nine singers ages 21 and up will be chosen on-air each week. The week's contestants will perform at McMorran's new Under the Ice Lounge following Icehawks home games on October 23, October 31, and November 6. Judges at the lounge will select the three best singers each week to send to the finals.

Throughout the competition, three contestants will be chosen at random to perform in front of the crowd at Icehawks games. The finals will take place on Saturday, November 21, following the Icehawks game against Dayton.

The winner will receive a prize package that includes a showcase opportunity at a future Icehawks game, a guest appearance on the Q-Country morning show, two luxury suite tickets to a Detroit Red Wings game, two tickets to the Red Wings Alumni President's Ball in 2010 and a program autographed by Gordie Howe.

The second place winner will get two passes to a Red Wings Alumni Practice and meal at Joe Louis Arena. All of the top three singers will receive four Icehawks ticket vouchers and a WSAQ T-shirt.

"This contest is a really fun way to showcase the area's best singers," said Icehawks Vice President/Business Manager Dave Goetze. "The great prizes being offered should bring out the best in the contestants and we hope fans will come show their support for their favorite singers after these games."
