Matt Gould Decommits from Providence College, Signs with Sea Dogs

The Saint John Sea Dogs announced today the signing of 19-year-old American forward Matt Gould.

Gould was drafted to the Sea Dogs 105th overall in the sixth round of the 2016 QMJHL Entry Draft. A native of Weymouth, Massachusetts, Gould is from the same town as Sea Dogs alumnus and Boston Bruins forward Charlie Coyle.

With his commitment to the Sea Dogs, Gould has formally decommitted from NCAA DI Providence College where he was scheduled to begin the 2019-2020 season.

"Matt will join our team on the ice and begin his University classes here this week" said Sea Dogs President & General Manager, Trevor Georgie. "He adds depth to our team. He brings speed, size, and experience to our forward group. He and his family see what the Sea Dogs offer in terms of hockey and a customized education experience, and we are happy to have him."

Gould played the last two seasons in the USHL, most recently with the Madison Capitals where he put up 14 points in 60 games. Prior to the USHL, the 6"1 speedster developed with the Boston Jr. Bruins.

"It's an honor to continue my hockey career with the Saint John Sea Dogs," said Gould. "There's a good young group here and I'm looking forward to adding my speed and experience to the team. It's an exciting new chapter in my hockey life and my school life."

Gould is now one of two Americans on the Sea Dogs roster. He joins 19-year-old Benjamin Badalamenti. Badalamenti hails from Harrison Township, Michigan and also spent time in the USHL last season.
