Matt Forbes Named ADT Defensive Player of the Week For the Second Straight Week

DAVENPORT, Iowa. - The af2 announced yesterday that Steamwheeler defensive specialist Matt Forbes has been selected as the ADT Defensive Player of the Week for Week 4 of the af2 season. This is the second consecutive week that Forbes has been so recognized by the league, making him the first player in af2 history ever to be named Defensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks.
The Davenport native was third on the team with three solo tackles to go along with his two fourth quarter picks that sealed the win for Quad City. Forbes tallied 92 return yards on the two picks, giving him 104 return yards on his five interceptions through the first three games of the season, both of which are good for tops in the league.
Forbes' first interception of the night came with 6:14 remaining in the game when he stepped in front of a Craig Strickland pass and took it 39 yards for the score, giving the âWheelers a 48-37 lead. He then closed out the scoring and the game with his second score. Strickland tried to find Jarrail Jackson in the end zone with less than ten seconds left, but Forbes again read the route and picked off the pass, going a Steamwheeler record 53 yards for the touchdown to give Quad City the 61-43 victory.
With the two picks against the Yard Dawgz, as well as the two a week earlier against Bossier-Shreveport, Forbes, is now second all-time for the Steamwheelers in interceptions with 16, and is one of just the eight players in team history to record more than one interception in a single game, a feat that he has accomplished three times during his time with the Steamwheelers.
Forbes and the rest of the Steamwheelers are back in action on Saturday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m., when they host the Midwest Division leading Memphis Xplorers (4-0) at OS Field at The MARK of the Quad Cities.
