Florida holds coaches poll lead by three-point margin
Published on April 27, 2005 under arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
CHICAGO - For the fifth straight week the Florida Firecats held on to the No.1 ranking in the weekly Coaches Poll, the league office announced today. The Firecats received 216 of a possible 228 points to hold on to the top spot, edging the Memphis Xplorers by just three points.
Florida's total included nine first-place votes, down one from last week. Memphis tallied 213 points and also received nine first-place votes. Louisville took over third place with 195 points and one first-place vote. The Central Valley Coyotes are the only other team to receive a first-place mention (1) in this week's poll.
The Week 5 schedule features four matchups of Top 12 teams. No.11 Macon hosts No.5 Manchester on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. No.7 Green Bay travels to Wachovia Arena to play the No.4 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Also on Saturday, the No.9 Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz head to Tulsa to take on the No.8 Talons at 8:00 p.m. Finally, highly touted No.2 Memphis visits The Mark to play No.6 Quad City at 8:30 p.m. All times Eastern.
Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 12 teams in the league by ranking them one through 12 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 12 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 12th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 12 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Tuesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.
The complete Top 12 is listed below. The number in parentheses indicates the number of first place votes the team received.
