Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud affiliate of the NHL's Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that forward Mathieu Aubin has agreed to terms with the club for the 2012-13 season.
Aubin, a 25-year-old Sorel, Quebec native, will return to Cincinnati this fall for a sixth season after a career year in 2011-12. A season ago, the Montreal Canadiens draft choice led the Cyclones in points (68), multi-goal games (3), and multi-point games (22) while tying his own career-high for single-season goals (30). On December 3, 2011, Aubin played in his 300th professional game against the Greenville Road Warriors. Just 10 days later, Cyclones Head Coach Jarrod Skalde named Aubin Team Captain, becoming the third player in club history to wear the "C." The six-foot-three-inch forward finished the year with a league-leading +25 plus/minus rating, earning him ECHL's Plus Performer of the Year accolades.
"Mathieu is a big part of our organization," said Cyclones Head Coach Jarrod Skalde. "Over the last two seasons that he's played for me, he has really taken ownership of our group. He is our leader and I look forward to having him expand on that leadership."
Currently, Aubin is the only active Cyclones player to have won both of the team's Kelly Cup Championships (2008, 2010) and is closing in on several other club records. He ranks second on the all-time list in points (219) and game winning goals (15) while placing third in games played (224) and goals scored (93).
The countdown to the 2012-13 season is officially underway! On Saturday, October 13, the Cyclones will host the second-annual Power Play 5K Run/Walk followed by the 2012 First Face-Off against the Wheeling Nailers at U.S. Bank Arena.
