Match Recap: Atlético Ottawa 1-1 Pacific FC
September 19, 2021 - Canadian Premier League (CPL)
Atletico Ottawa News Release
Atlético Ottawa travelled West for the first time this season, since the Winnipeg bubble, to face red-hot, league-leading Pacific FC at Starlight Stadium on Sunday afternoon. It wasn't a bad afternoon for the underdog, Ottawa maintaining the lead all the way up to the 86th minute of play, unfortunately conceding a late goal to end the battle in a 1-1 draw.
MATCH NOTES
Ottawa grabbed an early lead in the 19th minute off an artful setup by the always elusive Alberto Soto, dribbling between a couple of Pacific defenders before serving the ball towards Brian Wright, who just had to tap it in past Irving to capture the opening goal; the sixth time this season for Atlético Ottawa (3W-5D-11L).
This was Brian Wright's third goal this season in CPL, with one more coming in the Canadian Championship.
GK Dylon Powley offered a strong showing with 3 important saves on the 8 shots he faced in the first half, helping his side maintain the 1-0 lead going into the half. He went on to make 3 more saves on a total of 26 shots in the match, just one shy of maintaining a clean sheet, against the most potent attack in the league.
Powley was selected as Man of the Match by the CanPL crew for his performance.
As a team, Ottawa also defended against 10 corners and a handful of dangerously spotted free kicks, seeing only 36.7% of the ball possession.
TO COME THIS WEEK
Atlético Ottawa returns home to TD Place this Saturday, September 25th when it hosts Calvary for the first time (KO 4:30pm ET, live on OneSoccer and TSN 1200).
