San Diego Wave FC News Release
San Diego - San Diego Wave FC (1-1-0, 3 points) take on Racing Louisville (0-0-3, 3 points) at Lynn Family Stadium on Saturday night for the Wave's first away match of the regular season. The match kicks off at 4:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on ion.
The series points are split even between San Diego and Louisville with the current record being 1-1-2 heading into the fifth matchup. In the most recent meeting, the Wave defeated Racing in a 2-0 match on Oct. 15 to clinch the 2023 NWSL shield. Forward Jaedyn Shaw scored in the 26th minute and set a league record of career regular-season goals scored by a teenager (9). Alex Morgan assisted Shaw's goal and then recorded one of her own with a left footed shot, doubling the lead less than 90 seconds into the second half.
Last Time Out
In San Diego's last match, the Wave defeated the Seattle Reign for the first time in regular season history and recorded their first regular season win of 2024 on March 29. Midfielder Emily van Egmond scored the game winning goal in the 98th minute of the match, making it the latest goal scored in San Diego's history and her first regular season goal since July 9, 2014.
Racing Louisville (0-0-3, 3 points) are coming off their third consecutive draw of the 2024 season. Louisville played the Portland Thorns 2-2 on March 30 at Providence Park where Racing's midfielder Uchenna Kanu opened the scoring with a brace, scoring two goals within the first six minutes of the match. Portland found their first goal in the 52nd minute from Morgan Weaver and closed out the match with a late game equalizer from Sam Coffey who scored in the 99th minute.
Players to Watch
San Diego midfielder Savannah McCaskill has logged all 180 minutes of the Wave's regular season so far. The 2024 signing is a nine-year veteran of the league and has brought a dominant presence to the Wave midfield. The 27-year-old holds an 83% passing success rate and a 100% success rate so far in long balls this year, adding a level of consistency and accuracy for San Diego throughout the midfield and final third.
Midfielder Taylor Flint (Kornieck) will play San Diego for the first time since Racing Louisville acquired her in the 2024 offseason. In Flint's two seasons with the Wave, she appeared in 37 matches while scoring a combined five goals and recording three assists. In the 2024 season with Racing, Flint has played every minute of their first three matches and she has recorded one shot in each game.
How to Watch
Saturday's match will be broadcast live on ION at 4:30 p.m. PT. Fans in San Diego are invited to join the club's watch party at Pure Project in Balboa Park.
