Edinburg, Texas -Rio Grande Valley FC (1-3-0) is hosting their first-ever meeting with Eastern Conference opponent Indy Eleven (0-2-2). The match will take place at H-E-B Park on Saturday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. CST. The action will be live nationally on ESPN+ and Somos El Valle 5.2 locally.
RGV FC: Momentum Shift
A mid-week U.S Open Cup victory sparked the Toros offense, doubling their match goal total in 2022 as they scored two goals in a match for the first time since 2021. Frank Lopez provided the equalizing goal which regained the momentum for RGV at the 54th minute and Frank Nodarse sealed the deal at the 79th minute with a clean shot from outside the box. The 1-2 win boosted the Rio Grande spirits and will feed off of that momentum heading into league play this weekend.
The Opponent:
Indy Eleven last saw action on April 2 against western conference member LA Galaxy ll. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, earning a point for each side. A familiar face returns to H-E-B Park, now dawning the Indy crest; Jonas Fjeldberg is a dynamic attacking piece who could cause some disruption to the RGV defense. A key piece in the late push for the Toros last year, his ineligibility for the playoffs limited his potential in the closing stages of the season but he is the player to watch if he is in the lineup on Saturday.
